Espace Killy covers both Val d’isère and Tignes in its skiing area. It is one of the largest skiing areas in France with roughly 300km of pistes. 154 runs cover this region, of which; 22 are green, 61 blue, 46 red and 25 are black runs. In addition to the huge skiing area that the Espace Killy has to offer, there is a further 44km for cross-country skiers. The two skiing areas Val d’isère and Tignes are well connected with the 90 lifts, nevertheless you can actually ski from one resort to another.
The Tignes skiing area consists of 5 smaller villages. Les Brevieres
and the newly built Les Boisses
(Tignes 1800) are all relatively quiet and offer affordable accommodation. The further up the mountain you go the livelier the villages get. Le Lac is situated right in the middle, and therefore has a lot of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and so forth.
Val Claret is where to go for your après-ski as there is a livelier atmosphere here. The Blue Girl, Couloir Bar and the Melting Pot nightclub are some of the many bars and clubs that Tignes has to offer.
Tignes offers a vast variety of slopes for both advanced skiers and also beginners. Grande Motte is a 6.5km long slope that starts at height of over 3500m and over the course of the slope the run descends about 1300m. There are two challenging couloirs, ‘Le Grande’ and ‘Petite Balmes’ both of which offer steep slopes for more experienced skiers. There are also 4 nursery slopes here for beginners to make their first turns on.
The Espace freestyle park is equipped with a half pipe, and also has various different freestyle areas differing in difficulty. Additionally, there is an Airbag where you can jump into to try tricks.
